“This small shop with handmade shoes made from cactus fibre and camel hair stands out from the others in these main street of Fès. If you’re looking for an unique pair with a good story from a local artist, Art Fes is your place to head to!”

It is difficult to resist the temptations of multicolored merchandise the medina of Fès has to offer. From flowy scarves to oriental rugs and from fragrant soaps to typical Moroccan footwear such as slippers and sandals.

Not so typical is the small shop from Zakaria, a young artist who decided to live his dream and started manufacturing shoes with a distinctive design made from local materials. His loafers are one of a kind; each pair is unique and handmade and only come in the size he’s decided to make them into. Though each pair is different, they are all characterized by the soft leather, fresh colors and special patterns made from cactus fibre or camel hair. Next to these wonderful shoes, Zakaria also sells vintage bags and small items.

Though the Fès medina can be quite a labyrinth, Art Fès is conveniently located on the main street of Talaa Kebira. After entering the medina through the famous Blue Gate, simple enter left into this long street. Keep walking for about 5 minutes, passing Car Parking Ain Izliten on the left. Art Fès is located on the left, when it’s open it’s hard to be missed with the beautiful pairs of shoes displayed on shelves.

If you want to make sure the shop is open, just send Zakaria a message on Facebook, he’s very happy to answer your questions and see if he can help you out.
